Good Morning Portland.

I took my own personal oath when I restarted this here blog that I would not only blog about the creative side of me, because between work and the rest of my life there is not always an abundant amount of time to attach to the creative side. So here is a non creative related blog post. I have been prepping for the lovely Crafty Wonderland show this weekend, but that is not all consuming, my new detox/eating habits changes have been a bit consuming. I am one of those people who lay on an acupuncturists table each month to get my energy flow circulating. I have been on board with the supplements, the taking notes on ANY changes, following the moon cycle, taking intentional breaths, etc. However when she suggested a diet/forever diet that took away coffee I pretended the suggestion never happened until now. It could have something to do with my dawning 25th birthday, but I decided some changes were in order and I started taking this new eating plan into serious consideration. It's called an Anti-Inflammatory diet and it keeps foods out of your body that cause joint inflammation, stomach pain, and those pesky wheat allergies out of the tummy.

So what can't I eat?
  • white flour
  • white sugar
  • gluten
  • dairy
  • red meat
  • coffee
  • alcohol
  • nightshade plants (ie. tomatoes, eggplant, green peppers, potatoes)
  • citrus fruits
  • peanuts
  • wheat (unless whole grain)
  • shellfish
  • happiness
Any sane person can see my immediate dilemma. But I am two weeks in and once the first 6 days of a caffeine headache passed I started to see the light. I am cooking for the first time in my life and falling in love with foods I just seemingly forgot about. The full detox portion within the first 14 days is a bit unpleasant. However to look at food from a fresh and whole perspective I wouldn't give back for anything. Now all I need is a recipe for gluten-free, sugar-free desserts. Not much of a market out there for these little numbers.

It's a bit hard to find decent information on the Anti-Inflammatory diet, but if you want to read more go here. And my new favorite recipe website from Vegetarian Times magazine, they use creativity in their food prep for us strange detox folks.

  2. This sounds very similar to the "Eat Right 4 Your Type" diet (although it's actually a eating habit change) by Dr. Peter D'Adamo. They're about eating right for your blood type. I have 2 of his books with recipes and will save them for you - next time you're up and can personally pick them up. (that's a bribe to head north - LOL) mum

  3. You should share some of what you ARE eating! Have you read fresh365.blogspot.com? it's yummy veg recipes, some that could be modified to fit your needs. I'll ask our friends for some gluten free info...they are a couple and one has ciliac (wheat=bad), the other has a wheat allergy.
